InFocus Edmonton Musical Collaboration with Mohsin Zaman

InFocus Edmonton is only four days away! The group photography exhibit will be an amazing presentation of the creativity and vision of Edmonton and area photographers and artists.

I am excited to announce that Mohsin Zaman will be playing his music at our opening reception Saturday night, February 21st. I love supporting local musicians. I believe collaboration across artistic disciplines benefits us all. Plus, I’m really excited to listen to some awesome music while looking at great art. Sounds like a perfect night.

Please join us!

Get to know Mohsin Zaman:

From the bustling streets of Dubai to the wintry turf of Edmonton, Mohsin Zaman is old hand at being a newcomer. With a voice haunted by heartbreak, curiosity and ever-bearing hope, he sings, writes, and performs with a wealth of skill and spirit far beyond his years. His album Waking Up charts his ambitious journey from the Middle East to Canada, narrating the romance, joy and nostalgia he witnessed through passing frames. Mohsin Zaman is a cherished performer and musician in the Edmonton Music scene; he bears a soul power and honesty that propels his audience into new space, changes the atmosphere of a room with a sole song, and inspires any and everyone in his path.

Preview his music on SoundCloud or check out Mohsin on Facebook.

Exciting Updates: Unfulfilled Precognition exhibits, sales & book!

My fine art photographic series, Unfulfilled Precognition, is drumming up lots of exciting news lately.

Artist Alexis Marie Chute Kit and Ace Photo Art The Wall 004

1.    My photograph entitled Walk to Remember was sold to a lovely and inspiring couple, Nick & Kacey Keyko. The image was on exhibit at Kit and Ace for the past three months in the Whyte Avenue store’s gallery space called The Wall.

2.    I will be having a solo exhibition of Unfulfilled Precognition in Scottsdale Arizona at Method Art Gallery, who represent my work in the region. Dates TBD.

3.    One of my current projects is designing a photography book from this series. It will also feature my creative non-fiction writing in a sweet blend of genres. Stay tuned in the next six months for further updates. It will be awesome – that’s all I can say for now.

Exposure Photography Festival Kicks-off around Alberta

February is an exciting month – and even more so now as the much-enjoyed Exposure Photography Festival spreads across the province for the first time. Up to 2015, Exposure was only celebrated in Calgary, Banff and Canmore – but no longer!

Personally, I am thrilled that all of Alberta, particularly our capital region of Edmonton, will have the chance to host exhibitions, artist talks and other programming about photography.

Along with my tireless partner, Aaron Chute, I am curating an exhibit called InFocus. The show will feature Edmonton and area photographers under one roof in the drawing room at Harcourt House. We have such a creative community and this is a fabulous opportunity to show it off!

Not only am I working away at InFocus, but I also have a solo exhibition of my own work, entitled The Quiet Rebuild: New Portraits. These images feature volunteer models from across Canada who have endured struggle and tragedy and yet embody an incredible amount of resiliency. It is truly a pleasure to share the stories of others and be a part of their journey.

Merry Christmas Creative Ones!

Christmas reminds me of the magic of my childhood back when I believed in impossible dreams. As a kid my imagination was wild and uninhibited. Now, as 30+ year-old, I do my best to capture those qualities in my life and artistic practice because I know the amazing power they hold for the creative spirit.

This Christmas, I wish you the unlimited belief that your BIG dreams will come true and all the potential of your imagination to make them happen.

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

Walk to Remember Photograph from Unfulfilled Precognition finds Happy Home

It has been a privilege to have one of my photographs, “Walk to Remember,” displayed for the last two months at Kit & Ace on Whyte Ave. The photograph comes from my series called Unfulfilled Precognition, which is a deeply meaningful body of work for me.

“Walk to Remember” will be displayed until January 15, 2015 so if you have not yet had a chance to see it, you still have a few weeks. After that time, the photograph will go to a good home. It was really great to meet the buyer of “Walk to Remember” at the Kit & Ace Edmonton launch party. I was mingling and was introduced to a gentleman and we were talking. Then he repeated my name in one of those funny moments: “Oh wait, are you Alexis Marie Chute? I bought your photograph!”

Here are some images from the launch party, courtesy of Vivid Ribbon Photography and Design.

“The Quiet Rebuild” New Portraits at Exposure Photography Festival

Along with the exciting new group exhibition InFocus Edmonton, I am preparing another body of artwork to be exhibited during Exposure Photography Festival in February 2015. The first debut of my large black and white portraits was in my Artist-in-Residence exhibition, “The Quiet Rebuild,” at Harcourt House Artist Run Centre in Edmonton, Alberta in October 2013 – and the artwork has been seen in many galleries and public spaces since. Coming up, I will reveal brand new portraits in “The Quiet Rebuild” series during the Exposure festival.

These photographs are in keeping with the theme of resiliency in the wake and aftermath of hardship and are beautiful, subtle visual stories of my models. All models responded to an open call and volunteered. The show will feature Albertan and Ontario residents.
