We are in a season of human history where we need to help each other if we are to survive, thrive, and grow through this. COVID-19 is a terrible pandemic, but we needn’t let it destroy everything we care about and monopolize our attention. We can choose to focus on the good.

In this blog post, I am going to share some support I need from you, but first, I want to offer ways you can help the authors in your life. That is most important to me above all else. 

If you have an author friend, please know that that friend is probably freaking out a bit right now about how to sell their books, their livelihood. They have likely had events canceled, events where they would have shared and sold their books and made important connections.

Authors need support – now.

We can celebrate authors, help them weather this storm, and be the godsend that they are hoping for. That’s a pretty amazing opportunity if you ask me. 

Here is a list of 33 ways you can make a difference for the author in your life:

1. Buy an e-book.
2. Buy the book from your local indie bookstore (we must support the indies!).
3. Buy an e-book as a gift for your kids, a friend, co-worker, or family member.
4. Post about the book on your social media accounts.
5. Text a friend.
6. Send an email.
7. Word-of-mouth.
8. Help make connections – build bridges between those you know and the author. Think about Linked In, how it shows our circles of influence and how we are all connected.
9. Re-post the author’s posts.
10. If you are a teacher: recommend the e-book to your students.
11. Read the book in your book club.
12. Write a review (it can be short) of the book and post it on Amazon (.com and .ca), Barns & Noble, Goodreads, BookBub, and share it socially.
13. Request the book at your local library.
14. Host an author meet-and-greet.
15. If you have a blog, a vlog, or other platform where you post, have the author on as a guest!
16. Invite the author to speak VIRTUALLY to your business, community or professional organization.
17. Add the book to your “Want to Read” or “Currently Reading” shelves on Goodreads.
18. Add the book to Goodreads lists.
19. Recommend the book to your friends on Goodreads.
20. Comment on the author’s social media posts. On Facebook, this helps keep the post at the top of the feeds.
21. Commend on the author’s blog posts.
22. Click the “Follow” button on the author’s Amazon author page.
23. Post a photo of you reading the book on Instagram and tag the author.
24. Share mini-review-type updates as you are in the middle of reading the book. Or share a favorite quote from the book.
25. Tweet a micro review of the book, with a picture and a link.
26. Pin the book on Pinterest with a link.
27. Follow the author’s Facebook page and re-share the content.
28. Click the “like” button on other people’s five star reviews.
29. Make fan art about the book and share it on social media (don’t forget to tag the author).
30. Subscribe to the author’s email newsletter.
31. Forward the author’s email newsletter to your friends, family, and colleagues.
32. Tag a friend in the author’s social media posts, alerting your friend to the content.
33. Nominate the book for an award.

Yesterday was EXCITING! It was the launch of my campaign to hit the bestseller lists with my novel Above the Star. It was a day I saw all of my months worth of hard work kick off:

• The BookBub feature deal.
• The 99¢ e-book sale of Above the Star.
• Connecting with friends to help spread the word.

It was a tiring day, but one with many highs I’d love to share with you below.

Also, the work is not done yet!
