Edmonton Author inspires Positive Mental Health and Hope through New Fantasy Novel
2018 winner of the University of Alberta Horizon Award, and multi-award winning, bestselling Edmonton author, Alexis Marie Chute launches book one in her new YA fantasy trilogy, called Above the Star.
“Through Above the Star, I hope to inspire people—young and old—to use their imaginations and embrace the fun of reading. I am passionate about literacy and using creativity—like writing, reading, and visual art—to help people work through mental illness and grief,” says Chute, who won more than thirteen awards for her debut memoir, Expecting Sunshine, released last April.
Above the Star is a story with a multi-generational cast of diverse characters.
There is frumpy senior citizen Archie, stubborn single parent Tessa, and cancer-ridden yet determined fourteen-year-old Ella. These three—the Wellsley family—do not realize it, but the cure for Ella—what they search for on the magical island of Jarr-Wya—is closely tied to the fate of all worlds. The Wellsley’s are joined on their mission by Spanish opera singer Lady Sophia, a four-year-old African boy nicknamed Duggie-Sky, and Captain Nate of the Atlantic Odyssey, not to mention a suspicious stone-headed Bangol creature named Zeno and a host of fiery beings called Olearon.
